In an article by the Canary, Gordon Dimmack received a letter from Julian Assange earlier this week. It calls for our help, and outlines his current draconian conditions in Belmarsh prison. After reading it, it took me a few days to write about it due to the effect it has on my emotions. It truly broke my heart to see this heroic man enduring this kind of suffering. Below see the actual letter:
Here is a jpg with what it says:
Here is the link to the article:
“I have been isolated from all ability to prepare to defend myself: no laptop, no internet, ever, no computer, no library, so far, but even if I get access it will just be for a half an hour, with everyone else, once a week,” Assange wrote. “The other side? A superpower that has been preparing for 9 years, with hundreds of people and untold millions spent on the case.”
“I am unbroken, albeit literally surrounded by murderers, but, the days where I could read and speak and organize to defend myself, my ideals, and my people are over until I am free! Everyone else must take my place,” Assange wrote in the letter.
“The US government, or rather, those regrettable elements in it that hate truth, liberty and justice, want to cheat their way into my extradition and death, rather than letting the public hear the truth, for which I have won the highest awards in
journalism and have been nominated 7 times for the Nobel Peace Prize,” Assange wrote.
Truth, ultimately, is all we have.
I found myself disgusted and heartbroken over the letter but then became very angry over his treatment. If you have any compassion or empathy, you must be moved by this man’s torment. First, cry if needed and then we must get angry. We must prepare for battle for ourselves and to save this man’s life! Do not let them destroy our freedom or Assange.
Please help us save Julian!
